Vinashin delivers storage unit

The Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) on Monday delivered a floating storage and offloading unit, called a FSO-5, to the Petroleum Technical Services Corporation (PTSC).

Vinashin's Nam Trieu Ship Industry Corporation (Nasico) began building the FSO-5, the largest unit constructed so far in Viet Nam, in May 2007 with a total investment of US$170 million, said the PTSC.

The FSO-5 was scheduled for transport from Hai Phong Port to the Bach Ho Oil Field in Ba Ria Vung Tau Province today, said the PTSC.

The 150,000-tonne unit was designed by the Monobuoy Company (England) and the Sinus Company (Poland) under the observation of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS - US) and the Viet Nam Register (VR - Viet Nam).

The FSO-5 is a non-automatic oil tanker (no engine) built to 258.14 metres in length, 46.4 metres in width, 24 metres in height and with total container capacity of 173,796 cu.m. It's primary use is to serve offshore oil exploitation by subjecting oil to preliminary treatments at sea.

It has the capacity to receive oil passed through underground pipelines and can separate water from oil to produce crude for refineries and exports with an output of 3,500 - 5,000 cu.m per hour. Its sewage treatment system capacity is 2,400 cu.m per day.

The PTSC plans to widen its service distribution network to other countries in the region and to invest in at least 10 more service vessels. The boost will bring its total number of vessels to 25 between 2009 and 2010.

In mid-April, the PTSC won two international tenders to provide oil and gas vessels and services to Talisman Malaysia Co., Ltd, Canada's largest investor in Malaysia with a total capital of $35 million.

The firm, moreover, would prioritise development of service port systems at strategic locations near key oil and gas projects such as Long Son of southern Ba Ria Vung Tau Province, Hon La of central Quang Binh Province, and Nghi Son of central Thanh Hoa Province.

PTSC is a member of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) providing diversified technical services for the oil and gas industry inside and outside Vietnam with total assets of nearly $200 million and more than 4,000 employees.
