Exports key to socio-economic targets
Five provinces across the nation have been told to resolve any difficulties they might have in promoting exports if they are to meet their socio-economic targets for the year.
The request was made in an online meeting between Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the provincial leaders yesterday, August 26.
The provinces were Bac Kan and Thai Binh in the north, Quang Tri and Ninh Thuan in the centre and Soc Trang in the south.
After being briefed by the leaders on the implementation of socio-economic plans so far, Dung praised the provinces for their efforts, particularly at a time when the country was experiencing such hard times.
Dung said the most crucial task for the provinces from now to the end of the year was to reach their socio-economic development targets along with preparing for next year's Party congresses at different levels.
To reach those targets, Dung noted that promoting exports was the root of each province's economy.
He also urged the provinces to support local people and enterprises by introducing wise policies. They needed to listen to ideas and suggestions from enterprises in resolving difficulties, he said.
The online meeting was attended by leaders of some ministries and Central-level bodies.
Provinces were also asked to effectively use fund from the State budget and Government bonds to ensure timely disbursement and good work quality.
Dung required localities to pay attention to the opening of the new academic year early next month to make sure that school children would get to class at the highest rate possible and the number of drop-outs be minimised.
Provinces needed to provide poor children and students with the best conditions, including loans, to cater for their study.
Dung also told provinces to strive to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, overcome consequences left over from natural disasters and prevent epidemics.
In addition, the provinces should invest in building district healthcare centres to lessen the overload at central hospitals and provide prompt medical care to residents.
Administrative reform also needed attention, Dung said.
