Vietnam’s state utility buys more electricity from China
National power utility Electricity of Vietnam has said it bought 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours from China in 2009’s first five months, a year-on-year jump of nearly 12 percent, as demand surged.
The utility, known as EVN, produced 20.98 billion kilowatt-hours in the January-to-May period, 0.8 percent higher than a year earlier, said a statement on the government’s website.
Hanoi-based EVN expects to boost this year’s sales volume to 86.6 billion kilowatt-hours as power demand may grow 13 percent, the utility said in January.
EVN supplied 74.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity last year, including 53.1 billion kilowatt-hours from its generators and more than 21 billion kilowatt-hours purchased from domestic and overseas producers.
