Seminar tackles Mekong Delta’s lack of human resources

A forum was held in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on June 19 to discuss the development of human resources in the region, which has recently emerged as a burning issue.

Participants at the forum admitted that the region has a large labour force whose vocational skills are generally low and fail to meet the demands for international integration.

Most of them suggested restructuring schools and other educational establishments and investing extensively in equipment, new technologies and lecturers. Pham Vu Luan, Deputy Prime Minister of Education and Training, said that the ministry has a project to train 20,000 doctors and will prioritize provinces in the Mekong Delta.

Regarding jobs, representatives from the Mekong Delta provinces called for greater changes in the region’s economic structure and a combination of traditional and modern technologies to restore traditional craft villages that have a high economic value. They also highlighted the need to develop a system of information for the labour market and to improve the state’s managerial capacity in the labour and employment field.
