Vietnamese enterprises do not dump footwear in Canada
Vietnamese enterprises do not dump waterproof rubber footwear and bottoms in the Canadian market, affirmed Nguyen Duc Thuan, president of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso).
The Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) on February 27 announced that it has officially begun an anti-dumping investigation into the importation of shoes and waterproof rubber footwear and bottoms from Vietnam and China into the Canadian market.
The investigation was initiated at the request of the Shoe Manufacturers’ Association of Canada.
According to Mr Thuan, Vietnamese products exported to Canada has competitive advantages of cheap labour and using domestic materials.
The CBSA has not released a list of Vietnamese exporters being investigated as part of the case. However, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has warned Vietnamese footwear exporters to pay attention to the time, deadlines and any orders issued in this case.
Vietnamese enterprises have had only 37 days to answer investigation questions by CBSA.
As scheduled, on September 10, CBSA will issue either the last investigation decision or decision to stop investigation.
Last year, Vietnam’s footwear export turnover hit US$5 billion. Vietnam exported US$93 million worth of footwear products, most of them were waterproof rubber footwear and bottoms, to Canada last year.
