Hanoi pumps huge capital into electricity grid improvement

The Hanoi Power Company will invest VND338 billion in improving its rural electricity grid this year, says vice director Nguyen Anh Tuan.

Of the total amount, VND270 billion will be used to ensure the safety of the whole system.

Mr. Tuan says his company’s level of electricity loss will increase by 1.6 percent after the expanded capital city has managed the power distribution and transmission network of the former Ha Tay province.

The scattered rural electric grid, which serves nearly 95,740 households, presents many difficulties for the company such as a lack of clear regulations, poor infrastructure, and pressure from some communes that require the company to pay capital for the electrical infrastructure handed over to it.

The building of the electrical system in many communes was financed through various sources of capital.
